The Milan Community Center ‘s Gymnasiumprovides “open gym” opportunities, community recreation, the annual Holiday Craft Show (held the Saturday following Thanksgiving) and is a great place for special events like the Chippewa County Historical Society’s Annual Meeting and Banquet, The Chippewa County Relay for Life Survivor Banquet, and has been beautifully transformed for the All School Prom and for a Wedding Reception.
The Milan Village Art Schooloffers loom weaving, picture matting and other classes in the Milan Community Center in addition to their own building.
The AVCO group (Active Vikings Community Organization) has recently formed to provide opportunities for Milan Area folks to gather for cards, pool, outings, coffee and fellowship.
The Milan Sustainable Energy Utility (SEU) was developed to expand energy conservation resources available to the Greater Milan Community. Led by a board of local business leaders, residents, an energy expert, the Milan SEU conducts outreach and educational campaigns, has implemented energy efficient upgrades, and serves as a model for other small towns across the State. Milan SEU operates under the Greater Milan Initiative. The Milan SEU is a 2011 Minnesota Environmental Initiative Winner.
2010 Milan All School Reunionwas held at the Milan Community Center and those attending had the opportunity to tour the school, reminisce in the Alumni Room, have a catered meal in the Dining Room, attend a old fashioned Prom complete with decorations, and take in a terrific program of music provided by the Milan Community Band and special songs by the Chord Ayres.
The Greater Milan Initiative (GMI) is the 501(c)3 non-profit organization who owns the building and seeks your help to continue to offer the facility for the needs and enjoyment of Milan and the surrounding area. GMI offers various events such as dances, health and wellness programs.
You can help assure the continued availability of the Milan Community Center for everyone’s use by attending events, becoming GMI members, becoming Milan Alumni members, volunteering in a variety of projects, and offering suggestions for additional uses, as well as passing the word to potential renters of the wide opportunities of facility space.
