Milan has many excellent artists living in the area. The Milan Village Art School was founded in 1988 for just that reason. One of Milan's greatest resource is the talented artists.
Many hours of hard work and volunteerism have gone into the Village Arts School to make it a success. An old school house was moved to downtown Milan that became the Village Arts School’s classroom. Through the school, various people have worked to keep the arts alive in the area.
Classes that are typically taught each year include: Linoleum Block Cutting and Printing, Drawing, Norwegian Knife Making, Watercolor for children and adults, Bentwood Tine, Basketmaking, African Drumming, Soapmaking, Puppetmaking, Rosemaling Design and Painting, Silversmithing/Jewelrymaking, Chip Carving, Blacksmith Art, Welding, and Acanthus Wood Carving.
The Milan Village Arts Schools is a membership based organization. Each year, a membership event is held to get members of the MVAS together for a good time. In 2003, the membership event consisted of a jazz band and a cakewalk. Click here for information on becoming a member.
Brochures for the new classes are typically published in late fall. Call to get on the mailing list or to make an appointment to visit the school.
